Introduction to My Life



My name is Ally Schermerhorn. I am 24 years old and I live in Boston, MA.  I currently work at an advertising agency and I am very passionate about marketing and advertising. In addition to my career my other passions revolve around health and fitness. My entire life I grew up playing sports and dancing. Being active has changed my life in so many ways and I hope to be able to share my stories to help inspire others to live an active and healthy lifestyle as well.

I grew up playing sports like soccer, basketball, lacrosse and hockey when I younger. When I reached high school I joined the swim team, and played lacrosse and ice hockey. I picked up ice skating as an 8th grader. My friend had told me that they needed more people to play on our high school JV team so I figured I would give that a shot. My favorite sport to play is lacrosse. I have been playing lacrosse since the 7th grade I even played for one year in college which was an amazing experience to be a part of a collegiate level team and compete against great players from many different schools in New England.

I also have been dancing since I was three years old. I danced at a local dance studio in my hometown in Wakefield, MA called The Dance Studio of Wakefield. When I was in the third grade I joined the competition team and got to compete against tons of really amazing dancers at different schools around New England. I also performed in Disney World three times on the stage in Magic Kingdom. When I got to college I got involved in a dance club at the school and we practiced multiple times a week eventually performing at our college basketball games.

Being involved in sports and on a team has been so beneficial to me because you become a part of something almost bigger than you. Everyone works together to push each other to become stronger and it ultimately sets you up for a lifetime of success. These are skills that I am able to carry on throughout my life whether its in my career, on adults sports leagues, or just in social groups and clubs I have joined. Teamwork is a skill that is so valuable and sports can really help you to achieve your life goals.

I graduated from college almost two years ago and since then I started to pick up on long distance running and biking as a hobby. To me this is a great way to stay in shape when you are no longer a part of a competitive high school or college team. I ran my first half marathon the fall of 2015 and my first full marathon spring of 2016. At this moment I am training for another half marathon right in Boston over Memorial Day weekend. I also plan on doing another full marathon in the fall where I have set my goal to run it in 4 hours and 15 minutes. It takes a lot of training and discipline to run in these events, but once you accomplish your goals the reward is so worth it.

I hope that I can use my passions for a health and fitness to create a positive impact on the lives of others. Being healthy not just physically, but mentally as well is the best way to set yourself up for a lifetime of succes and more importantly be a happier person overall. Beacause lets be real living a happy life is what we all aim for. I am not saying there aren’t going to be times when you get down on yourself but positivity is contagious and the best way to spread that is by lifting others up and leading by example.
